iPhone 5 casing video shows design changes

The iPhone 5 rumors have been coming thick and fast recently, with some major design changes apparently happening before the new smartphone arrives. So far we’ve heard that the iPhone 5 will carry a larger 4-inch display, has a smaller SIM card tray, and will be thinner than the iPhone 4S. Apple is also thought to be trying to keep the width and height of the phone the same, and just having less of a border around the larger display ...

Late yesterday the video you see above appeared on YouTube. It shows what is thought to be an iPhone 5 casing with a number of changes over the iPhone 4 that support most of the rumors.

What is apparent right away is that the case is taller than the iPhone 4S, but retains the same width. That supports the rumor Apple is moving to a larger display that is 16:9. The casing is also noticably thinner than the previous generation, and that will remain the case even with the display added to the front.

We also get to see that the speaker grill design has changed, the earphone jack is now on the bottom of the phone, and a new, smaller dock connector will be used. The SIM card slot is also smaller, suggesting Apple intends to use the just approved nano-SIM design with the handset. However, Apple may have just shrunk the card slot but will retain the existing MicroSIM.

Is this the real iPhone 5 casing? We have no way of knowing. It may be an official Apple part, but could be an early prototype the company has since discarded. What it suggests is the iPhone 5 will be thinner, it will have a bigger display, and none of your existing iPhone peripherals will work with that new dock connector.
