With the growth of mobile data consumption, it is time that scientists and research engineers start working on the next technology.
Tuesday, October 09, 2012: While India is still at a nascent stage when it comes to 4G technology, the world is moving fast ahead. While we are still debating whether the cost of 3G will let 2G users make the shift, the world is preparing to embrace the 5G technology! Yes, it is true. If reports are to be believed, a team of researchers from Samsung, Huawei, Telefonica, Fujitsu Laboratories, Rohde-Schwarz and AIRCOM International have actually started work on 5G, the fifth generation of wireless communication.
The University of Surrey will be the playground for the next in data transfers and a special 5G Innovation Center has been set up in the University. The UK Government has allotted £11.6m to the project while the rest of the total £35m (approximately $56m) fund will be contributed by the consortium of the participating companies, Crazy Engineers’ report.
With the growth of mobile data consumption, it is time that scientists and research engineers start working on the next technology. With so many people planning to make the shift to 3G and 4G, soon these spectrums will be clogged to, overloading the system. Thereby, it makes all the more sense that 5G is researched and explored. Professor Rahim Tafazolli of the Surrey University spoke about a cell capacity of 10 Gbps (per tower target), which would be roughly about 200 Mbps for each connection.
Well, before you start waiting for the next technology, researchers believe that it will take 10 more years to make the breakthrough!
