Beware Of Fake Android Market - Android Express’s Play!

Symantec has found out that the fake market dubbed as Android Express’s Play has managed to get over 3,000 visits from 13 January to 20 January 2013. 

Sunday, February 03, 2013 With the rising popularity of Google’s Android operating system, security concerns are slowly on the rise. Now, Symantec has alerted about a malware that is out in the wild to harvest the personal information of Android users. Dubbed as Android.Exprespam, the malware was discovered at the beginning of January. But experts have found out that the malware has been pretty successful.

Symantec has found out that the fake market dubbed as Android Express’s Play has managed to get over 3,000 visits from 13 January to 20 January 2013 and have been successful in garnering between 75,000 and 450,000 pieces of personal information personal. 


“Android users should avoid using links in emails from unknown sources, only download apps from well-known and trusted app vendors and install a security app,” said Symantec in a report.

Symantec also alerted users of ransomware, which seems to be on the rise. It has been quite some time since the ransomware activity has achieved a different level. A new variant has been discovered named as Trojan.Ransomlock.Y which is mostly active on porn sites.
