Rockstar Games has been teasing the release of Grand Theft Auto V since October
last year. But up until now we were expecting it to arrive some time in
the Spring. The bad news is, that’s no longer the case, but the good
news is we now have a specific release date for the game.
Rockstar has today announced that GTA V will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17. PC gamers will just have to wait and see
what happens, but even if the game does appear for Windows, it likely
won’t do so until some point in 2014 if past performance is anything to
go by.
Rockstar has apologized and says it realizes September isn’t a Spring
release, but the game had to be delayed a few months. The reason being GTA V
is a “massively ambitious” and “complex” title, and the dev team just
needs a few more months to get everything finished and polished.
People have already started
posting abusive comments on the Rockstar post about the delay, which is
both unfortunate and predictable. A delay is understandable for such a
big game, and it would be much worse to release it full of bugs. A
September release also works out better for Rockstar as it gives them a
nice window for millions of sales in the run up to Christmas.
It’s thought some games were delayed to miss the launch of GTA V
in the Spring. Now the release date has changed, we may see some more
high profile titles shifting away from a September/October release date.
