EA Voted 'Worst Company in America' — Again

Electronic Arts has been voted the worst company in America by Consumerist readers, passing up Bank of America, Ticketmaster and Carnival Cruise Lines to win the "golden poo" award for the second year in a row.

Consumerist reported that EA captured 78% percent of the vote. The annual poll is held bracket-style, with EA knocking out Anheiser-Busch InBev, Facebook, AT&T, Ticketmaster and, finally, Bank of America to claim the prize.

Other companies included in the bracket were Walmart, every major cable provider, Best Buy, American Airlines and PayPal.

In the Consumerist's final thoughts, Chris Morran wrote, "Following last year’s surprise Worst Company in America victory by Electronic Arts, there was hope that the video game giant would get the message: Stop treating your customers like human piggy banks, and don’t put out so many incomplete and/or broken games with the intent of getting your customers to pay extra for what they should have received in the first place."

Although voters could have individual reasons for ganging up on EA, the recent debacle with SimCity's release is still fresh on many people's minds. Thousands of players were unable to access the game upon release because it requires connection to servers, which weren't ready for the traffic loads. EA later apologized and gave players a free game.

Last week, when Consumerist published the poll's semifinals, EA Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore took to the company's blog, stating, "We will do better." Moore started his post with, "The tallest trees catch the most wind," and argued that while plenty of people might not like EA's practices, more people are purchasing their games.

Do you think EA deserves its golden poo trophy for the second year in a row? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
