At Sony’s PS4 event in February, fans were left a little shocked when
the company didn’t reveal the actual PS4 hardware, instead choosing to
just show off the official DualShock4 controller, new camera and other
features such as the new PS4 interface. With that in mind, we were
expecting to see the hardware at E3 2013 in June, but new rumors this
week suggest that we could actually see the hardware before E3, at a
surprise event to take place within the next few weeks.
It has been heavily speculated that Microsoft will be holding an
event in April to debut the next-generation xbox console, but now we
hear that Sony could also be planning a second PS4 showing as well. An article
over at PCMag claims that they have been informed of the news by a
reliable source, adding that the event could take place later in April,
or afterwards in May if not.
Sony were also in attendance at GDC in San Francisco recently,
deciding to give another introduction into the more technical side of
the PS4. It wasn’t an event to showcase new PS4 software, but very
satisfying still for the intrigued PC gamers out there who are now
considering switching over.
With all of the talk on how Sony failed to show the hardware yet, is
there a danger of consumers being underwhelmed when Sony finally does
show off the PS4 unit? We think size will be key, as we definitely don’t
want to see a massive unit similar in size to the original fat PS3.
It is evitable that Sony are going to slim down the PS4 year on year
to get the most out of sales, but starting small will be ideal for
consumers who want to replace their PS3 space in the living room. At the
moment, Sony hasn’t sent out any invitations for the mystery second
showing, but hopefully we’ll hear more details on this soon.
If Sony really are planning to show the PS4 again before E3 in June – what areas would you like them to focus on this time?
