Telstra adds Android apps to billing

Telstra customers with Android smartphones will be able to pay for their Google Play purchases on their Telstra phone bill, the company announced today.

Telstra worked with Google to bring the billing functionality in, and customers will be able to select "Bill my Telstra Account" at the point of purchase in the Google Play store for apps, books, magazines, movies, and games that are priced at AU$20 or less.

It is available for both post-paid and prepaid customers. For post-paid customers, a limit of AU$100 per month has been set for purchases from the Google Play store, but this can be adjusted with a call to Telstra.

Telstra's own research estimates that Australians download an average of 36 apps per year, and pay for one in five of those.
