FIFA 14 features to be tailored for online play

We are now coming to the business end of the footballing season, which means that a new FIFA game is already on the horizon. You may still be addicted to FIFA 13, but EA are already starting to discuss big changes that are going to be implemented into FIFA 14. There’s no word on whether the game will be showing up on the PS4 yet, but one core feature that EA seem to be focusing on is online play and having widespread connectivity options.

In a recent and interesting interview, EA’s lead producer for FIFA David Rutter has been speaking about the prospect of having a new FIFA 14 game that is heavily connected to the likes of EA Sports Football Club. Rutter has told WhatCulture that EASFC is going to play a big part in the game once again, with upgrades on the way to make the game feel even more sociable and connected than before.

There’s talk on having challenges brought into FIFA 14 from real matches, closely managing Ultimate Teams whilst away from home via an application and further data upgrades on every professional player in the game that will be featured in FIFA 14. While EA are looking to focus on the online side of FIFA, Rutter has also reiterated that the full single-player experience will still be there for those that enjoy that side of things.

As we’ve seen with Sim City though, EA don’t want to run the risk of angering loyal FIFA fans with any similar always-on DRM shenanigans that have been causing Sim City players a lot of problems in the recent launch. We already love the online features in FIFA 13 though, so it will be fascinating to see how they can improve even further, for that greater sense of immersion when playing as your favorite team.

Although we still have a long way to go until FIFA 14 is out, we have a feeling that EA will announce the game for both current gen and next-gen at E3 2013. It makes sense to have a FIFA game on the PS4 and Xbox 720 by the end of the year, so it will be exciting to see just how good FIFA graphics can get on new hardware.

What features and improvements would you like to see for FIFA 14? Will you buy for current gen or next-gen?
