The Samsung Galaxy S IV is expected boast a new “floating touch”
technology that will allow users to interact with the display without
actually touching it. Samsung already offers a similar feature with its
Galaxy Note devices and their accompanying S Pens. But the Galaxy S IV
will use your finger, rather than a stylus.
Sony
has also integrated similar technology into its own smartphones, such
as the Xperia Sola. It has all kinds of uses, such as hovering over
websites to navigate menus, previewing photographs within an album, or
previewing a video without actually opening it.
Those with a
Galaxy Note device will already be familiar with some of these features,
because Samsung has a technology called AirView that uses the S Pen
stylus like a mouse cursor. It’s thought the Galaxy S IV will offer the
same functionality, only it won’t require a stylus.
You can see some of AirView’s features in the video below.
The information comes from a tipster for SamMobile, a website with an
impressively accurate track record when it comes to Samsung rumors. The
tipster also claims that the Galaxy S IV will get a new kind of AMOLED
display:
The new AMOLED material called “green PHOLED”
uses color GREEN-YELLOW makes these AMOLED display’s 25% more
efficient. Which is good news for the battery life. The resolution of
the panels are of course Full HD.
And that’s not all
the tipster has to offer. They also claim the Galaxy S IV will ship
running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, but a 4.2.2 update will be released
during the same month the device goes on sale. It’s also expected to get
a new camera feature called Samsung Orb, which will be just like Jelly
Bean’s Photosphere.
The tipster also confirms some of the specifications we’ve already heard,
including the 13-megapixel camera, eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor,
2GB of RAM, and a new TouchWiz Nature UX. There’s no word on the rumored wireless charging functionality, however.
Samsung will give the Galaxy S IV its official unveiling at an event in New York City on March 14. We’ll find out then whether these claims are accurate.
