iPad mini 2 expected to keep price conscious

Over the past few weeks there seems to have been a lot of discussions in regards to the iPad mini 2, and more so its price. The most important factor for this smaller version of Apple’s popular tablet was its lower price bracket because it gave some people a chance to own this iOS device when in the past it was out of their reach.

Love them or hate them you have to admire how Apple created a new market from nowhere and dominated even when rivals came up with their own take on the iPad, although with an Android flavor. There is now a massive choice of Android tablets available, but it’s still the iPad that wins in sales for one particular tablet.

However, Apple knew that they were being overtaken by Android and the projected tablet sales forecast for 2013 to 2017 would have looked very different if they did not release the iPad mini last year. Overall sales of the full size iOS tablet seems to have fallen but it’s the iPad mini that has helped to bolster sales.

The lack of price increases on previous generations has certainly helped the iPad remain the best selling tablet, and the release of the iPad mini with its lower price helps to strengthen this dominance.

It’s for this very reason why a slight spec increase while keeping the same price is a pattern Apple likes to follow, but how do you feel about this? Would you like to see Apple stick with this plan, or offer several updates with the second-gen model, maybe you’d rather see the price of the iPad mini 2 be a little cheaper than the current version?

Each year the iPad has seen some pretty decent upgrades while still sticking with the same base price, $499, although Apple has now dropped the iPad 2 price, which now costs just $399 – yes they still supply the second-generation model. This could mean that the iPad mini 2 with whatever upgrades Apple gives it should still come in at $329 this year as well.
