Everyone plays games on their mobiles — whether it’s Angry Birds or Temple Run,
the next big game is always around the corner. But gaming on your phone
isn’t always fun. The awkward controls end up cramping out fingers and
we get fed up after ten minutes.
ThinkGeek has a solution, the iCade mobile gaming system for you iPhone or iPod touch
acts as a caddy for your phone turning it into a proper portable gaming
system. Simply slot your phone in the middle and you immediately gain
access to a proper D-pad and actual, physical buttons. It even has four
shoulder buttons. Take that, touchscreen!
More than 100 apps are supported, to find them just search iCade in the app store. Some fan favorites already supported are Temple Run, Nyan Cat!, Midway Arcade and, Pac-Man.
The controller connects wirelessly using Bluetooth and once you set
it up once that’s it. The cradle can also be rotated to either portrait
or landscape view so it will suit all your gaming needs. It does require
2 x AA batteries though.
It’s a great idea and I know many people will be yelling “finally!”
but there are a few downsides with the iCade. It’s pretty big and bulky,
not exactly something you can fit in your pocket so how many people
will really want to take it will them for gaming on the go? It’s also
very pricey, at $69.99 you could probably pick up a secondhand DS
instead. It all depends on how much gaming you truly do on your iPhone
but if you’re a real hardcore gamer, you’ll want to stick to your Vita or DS.
