Wednesday, July 11, 2012: Heard a lot about Windows 8 and now eagerly waiting for it to show up? Well, the time is not too far. According to reports, computers running on the much-talked about Windows 8 platform will be up for sale in October this year. The announcement was made at the Windows 8’s mass-market release in Toronto.
Earlier reports suggested that Windows 8 would be commercially available in the fall to tap the holiday shopping season. This means that customers who are not willing to buy new computers can purchase Windows 8 and upgrade their systems.
So far Microsoft used to come out with new versions every three years but this update has been in talks since 1995. With the new platform, applications will appear in a mosaic of tiles on Windows 8. Microsoft has reportedly designed the operating system so it can run on personal computers or touch-based tablet computers.
Microsoft is also planning to develop its own tablet running on Windows 8 to compete with Apple and other popular tablets. Not many details about the price of the tablet has been made public yet, but it will be sold under the name Surface.
