The study was revealed by Apple's
biggest competitor, Samsung, as an evidence to prove how different are
its devices from that of the iPhone.
Apple has mulled over the
success of Android and has come up with some interesting statistics.
According to an internal research done by Apple, the users buy an
Android device instead of an iPhone because they want to stick to their
carrier.
The study is based on data from the US market and was
published by Apple internally in January 2011. The study was revealed by
Apple's biggest competitor Samsung as an evidence to prove how
different are its devices from that of the iPhone.
48 per cent of the
respondents said that they wanted to stick to Android because, “they
wanted to stay with (their) current wireless provider.” The survey was
conducted in 2010, where iPhone was launched for less than three years
and Android was having a good time. 36 per cent of the respondents said
that they trusted 'Google', the maker of Android and 30 per cent said
they liked the big screen of Android phones.
Samsung presented
the report in a bid to prove how people bought its smartphones and how
they are distinct from Apple's iPhone. With this, Samsung rubbished the
claim of the iPhone maker that customers simply confused Samsung devices
with the iPhone. This is the most common charge levied by Apple in its
suit against Samsung.
Apple's response to this study can be seen
in all its product posts in 2010 where Apple added features that makes
it phones work across carriers. So, this ensures that users get the same
network even if they switch their phones.
Here is a description of Apple's report:
Wanted to stay with current wireless service provider: 48 per cent
Trusted the Google brand: 36 per cent
Preferred larger screen: 30 per cent
Preferred the Android market for apps (Gmail, Google Docs, Google-Voice): 27 per cent
Wanted better integration with google services: 26 per cent
Wanted the latest and greatest smartphone: 26 per cent
Wanted turn by turn GPS navigation: 25 per cent
Wanted the latest technology: 25 per cent
