If you are in possession of either the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 or Samsung Galaxy S3 and are looking for some external battery packs, we have a few selections for you to consider. The Galaxy S3 battery life isn’t poor by any means, but we’ve found that with the right battery extender, you can increase the phone’s battery length on the S3 by as much as double.
The downside to going down this route of course though, is the extra bulk that these battery extenders usually add to the overall look of the device. On this occasion, the final look on the Galaxy S3 when using a Mugen battery extender isn’t too bad we feel, but some of you may still be unhappy that it isn’t quite top notch.
Right now, you can pick up the HLI-I9300XL battery extender from Mugen for the Galaxy S3, priced at $87.95 and available for free worldwide shipping when ordering online at Mugen’s official website. The Galaxy S3 ships with a 2100mAh battery out of the box, but equipping this battery pack will give you the benefit of a juiced up 4600mAh battery instead.
That is an instant improvement of over double the capacity, with a Mugen statistic confirming that the extra power will provide a 2.16 times increase compared to using the original battery. You will have to contemplate using a different back casing cover though, as you’ll see in the image above showing the added fat that the device gains.
It’s not the best back case we’ve seen for an external battery pack, but it’s definitely not the worst either. There is even a handy kickstand included on the case as well, which is ideal when viewing media from a distance. The question is though, are you willing to accept double the battery life for a larger looking Galaxy S3 which is going to add some weight when placed in the pocket?
Mugen are also selling a battery extender for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, priced at $44.95. Unfortunately though, the increase in battery life compared to the S3 extender is far less, with the Mugen Note 2 battery only offering an extra 3% battery life. With this in mind, you may want to consider an alternative Note 2 external battery pack, such as the Extended Battery from BatteryBay – build quality looks a bit questionable though.
Are you using a battery pack for the Galaxy S3 or Note 2 already, or are you satisfied with what Samsung provides out of the box? If you are, let us know what you are using and whether you would recommend it for other users.
