Apple to continue tend of naming its OS after a feline.
Continuing Apple's trend of naming its operating systems after a feline, the next version of its Mac OS could be titled 'Lynx'.
The information derives from a "reliable source" who apparently spoke with someone inside Apple. The person viewed internal papers that suggests the company is finalizing the name of OS X 10.9. However, the source couldn't reveal when Apple will decide on the name or publicly reveal it.
To add credence to the report, Lynx appeared on the list of available names for OS X nearly a decade ago. Back in 2003, Apple trademarked several names for Mac OS including Lynx, Cougar, Leopard and Tiger.
AppleScoop believes Apple may unveil the name for OS X 10.9 at next year's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
Not much has been unveiled for the next Mac OS version, but Apple is said to be incorporating features from iOS. OS X 10.9 will apparently include voice assistant Siri, as well as Apple Maps support.
