There’s a story going around today making some claims about the rumored Galaxy Note III, and what kind of hardware it might feature. Just what’s being said, and how much faith can we put in it?
The original reporting comes from The Korea Times, which claims that
it’s learned from unnamed Samsung officials that the Galaxy Note III
will feature a 6.3-inch display and one of the just-announced eight-core
Exynos 5 Octa SoCs.
We’ve heard that 6.3-inch part a couple times before,
and just as much now as then, it’s a little hard to believe. Huawei’s
Ascent Mate is already gigantic to the point of being unwieldy, so why
would Samsung make such a big leap up from its already-large Galaxy Note
II; has anyone been complaining that the Note II is too small?
The Exynos 5 Octa bit – sure, that we can believe, especially if the
Note III is on-track for closer to the end of the year – but this
6.3-inch business? We won’t entirely write it off, but it seems really
unlikely for any Samsung executive to confirm such a rumored
specification like this, considering how very far off and still
(publicly) unofficial the GN3 project must be.
